MERCED COUNTY — On June 2nd, 38-year-old Dionicio Gutierrez-Salazar of Atwater was found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder.

The events began on February 19th, 2013, when Salazar and two other men arrived at the home of Ramon Jimenez, intent on robbing him. By the time the night was over, Jimenez was dead of a gunshot wound to the back of the head next to his estranged wife, who was not harmed.

Gutierrez managed to elude police until being arrested in 2015 on a separate murder charge in the death of Carlos Humberto Franco-Herrera.

Herrera had been stabbed at least 43 times, during the course of which Gutierrez ordered his two roommates to take pictures.

Gutierrez will be sentenced on July 20th. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
