Oakley Drive-by Shooting Suspect Caught by Antioch Police

Lowe’s on Lone Tree Way

OAKLEY – With assistance from Antioch police, Oakley police officers arrested a drive-by shooting suspect early Sunday morning, near Lowe’s Home Improvement store, located at 5503 Lone Tree Way in Antioch.

Officers from Oakley responded to a shooting incident on the 100 block of Francisco Villa Drive shortly after midnight on May 21, where they located one person suffering from a minor injury.

The Oakley Police Department determined that the victim was with a group of persons just returning from a party, when gunshots suddenly rang out from a passing vehicle.

An Antioch police officer who heard the shooting report from Oakley spotted a dark-colored vehicle shortly afterwards, near the Lowe’s store matching the description of the vehicle suspected of being used in the Oakley shooting incident.

When the Antioch officer approached the vehicle, two persons jumped out and ran away, but 20-year-old Willie Morgan, a resident of Martinez, was caught when more Antioch officers arrived on the scene, and he was detained by them. The other person who fled from the vehicle got away—for now.

Oakley police officers arrived soon afterwards to arrest Morgan in Antioch, who was reluctantly waiting with their police colleagues from that city.

Morgan is charged with shooting at person from a vehicle, and assault with a firearm. He’s being held at the Martinez Detention Facility, where bond for his release was set at $300,000.

The vehicle believed to have been used in the drive-by shooting was impounded and a police investigation is ongoing to recover evidence related to the shooting incident.
