GRANITE BAY — 36-year-old Christopher Dietrich of Granite Bay is in custody after stealing a package from the front of a home on May 16th.

A retired LEO witnessed the theft on the 400 block of Eureka Road and followed the car Dietrich was in, calling the dispatch center as he did so. At some point, Dietrich realized he was being followed and discarded the package, then got out of the car to confront the person following him.

The officer drew his gun and held Dietrich at gunpoint until deputies arrived on scene.

Dietrich was then arrested for petty theft and possession of a controlled substance. As it turned out, he also had an outstanding warrant for drug-related charges.

He is housed at Placer County Jail on bail of $10,000.
