A suspect was arrested in Madera after an alleged DUI resulted in his car going into the water.

According to a release by Madera Police Det. Nick Webster, the suspect — identified as Alberto Morales — was driving southbound on Elm Street late Sunday night when he approached a dead end. Morales, who was reportedly intoxicated, then went off the road, punching through the fence and going into a canal with his passenger. After the crash, the two occupants of the truck were alleged to have fled the scene on foot.

“Amazingly, no one was injured in this accident,” Webster said.

Webster stated that police were tipped off to the incident when nearby residents called and gave a description of Morales and the other occupant, and the direction they were going in.

Morales was reportedly found to have a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit and was booked into Madera County Jail for driving while under the influence.
