Burglars in Custody After Alert Neighbor Calls Police

Manuel Rodriguez (L) and Alan Edwards (R)

SEASIDE — Two home burglary suspects are in custody after a tip from an alert next door neighbor.

Just before 1 PM, Seaside PD were notified by an alert citizen of a burglary in progress on the 2000 block of Yosemite Street. Police arrived on the scene just as the suspects fled through the back of the house.

The two began hopping fences, but police caught up to one of them quickly. 20-year-old Manuel Rodriguez was arrested promptly.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Alan Edwards led officers on a continued foot chase before finally being run down and joining his partner in the patrol car.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Edwards and Rodriguez had chosen the victim’s residence by knocking on the front door and waiting to see if anyone would answer. When no one did, they went to the backyard and forced entry through a locked door.

That was when an alert neighbor noticed the suspicious activity and called police.
