SAN FRANCISCO — On March 17th just before 7:30 PM, SFPD began investigating a reported shooting threat in the area of 4th & Howard.

Arriving officers met with the victim, who said she’d been playing with her infant son in the park when a man approached her, began making anti-Muslim remarks, and threatened to shoot her. She immediately fled with her son and called police. Apparently, he’d noticed the hijab she was wearing and took considerable umbrage.

A short while later, two sergeants ran across a man several blocks away who matched the woman’s description. He was detained and, shortly thereafter, positively identified by the victim.

27-year-old Joshua Ruano of San Francisco was arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail on charges of criminal threats with a hate crime enhancement, as well as other unrelated charges.
