Disturbing the Peace Call, Standoff, then Arrest

PINE MOUNTAIN — Early on Wednesday morning, after 1 AM, KCSD deputies responded to a “disturbing the peace” call at 2025 Linden Drive.

36-year-old Matthew Barr, in possession of a hatchet, was the focus of their attention as he was refusing to allow his ex-girlfriend to leave.

Barr happened to already have two active warrants for his arrest.  Deputies could see Barr in the house and issued a call for his arrest, but he responded with threats to anyone who attempted to arrest him.

A further attempt to approach the house was met with some sort of pepper spray agent sprayed by Barr.

Deputies set up a perimeter and called KCSO SWAT as well as Crisis Negotiation teams.

Finally, SWAT forced their way into the residence and discovered Barr hiding in the basement.  Barr continued to resist, so a K-9 assisted in the arrest.

Needless to say, Barr sustained a few bites during the arrest process.  He was found to have had several knives on his person as well as a military helmet and body armor.

After medical clearance, Barr was booked for the two outstanding warrants and other open charges.
