Suspected Car Thief and Passengers Arrested on Freeway

SAN RAFAEL – An officer recovered a stolen car and arrested three persons on Sunday—after the driver used a screwdriver to turn off a damaged ignition—during a traffic stop on northbound Freeway 101, near the downtown exit.

The vehicle was traveling 20 mph over the speed limit and the driver was making erratic lane changes, police said. A check of the vehicle identification number (VIN) indicated the car was reported stolen the previous day in Richmond.

The driver, 21-year-old Steven R. Davis of El Sobrante, was taken into custody at 2:16 a.m. on March 5; charged with vehicle theft and receiving stolen property. Davis is being held at Marin County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. His court hearing is scheduled for March 20.

Two passengers were also arrested and subsequently released on bail. Angel Camacho, 23, of San Pablo and Rosalinda M. Ortega, 39, of Hercules are each charged with possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, and drug paraphernalia.
