Struggling Suspect Drops Gun after Botching Auto Burglary

36500 block of Mulberry Street

NEWARK – Police responding to a report of an interrupted auto burglary on the 36500 block of Mulberry Street located and arrested two men, and recovered a loaded handgun early Sunday morning.

An officer located the suspects shortly after 6:30 a.m. on March 5, near the intersection of Olive Street and George Avenue, but the two men ran away heading west on George Avenue.

One suspect was quickly apprehended — and he dropped a loaded handgun during the ensuing struggle. Police used a taser gun to subdue him.

Additional Newark and Fremont officers arrived on the scene to help search for the second suspect, who was later found hiding in a nearby backyard.

The 20-year-old suspects, Christopher Williams of Antioch and Timeous Q. Robinson of Pittsburg, were each booked at Santa Rita Jail.

Williams is being held for $135,000 bail; charged with assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, dissuading a witness or victim, domestic violence, and petty theft.

Robinson who is no longer in custody is charged with illegal possession of a weapon, attempted petty theft and obstructing an officer.
