Sacramento Police say that a shootout in South Natomas has left one man lying in the hospital with serious injuries and the police combing the streets for leads.

At approximately 3:19 pm Monday afternoon, Sacramento Police Department received a call for shots fired involving a vehicle.

Police quickly arrived on the scene, locating the car involved in the shooting smashed into a fence near Stonecreek and Pebblewood Drives in the South Natomas area.

They found the driver of the vehicle nearby suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to a nearby hospital where his condition has been described as very serious.

According to investigators, a black four-door Kia hatchback swerved off the road and crashed into a resident’s fence after the driver had been shot. Officers believed the passengers of the car had fled the scene after the crash and quickly began a rigorous search for them as well as the other party involved in the shooting. Using trained police dogs and a helicopter they searched a three block radius but unfortunately found no trace of the suspects.

Eye witnesses in the area say that the driver of the vehicle got into an argument with a small group of people walking down the street before both parties began shooting at each other.

So far, no one has been detained and Sacramento Police are still searching for the suspects as well as any witnesses in the case.
