Knife-Wielding Man Shot by Police in Stockton

STOCKTON — Just after 10 AM on February 15th, local CHP arrived on northbound SR-99 south of Lathrop Road after reports of a man wandering in traffic lanes, possibly in an attempt to be struck.

A responding CHP officer discovered upon arrival that the man was armed with a knife and making statements indicating a desire to be shot. A Manteca PD officer also arrived two help keep the situation under control.

The suspect was visibly agitated and aggressive, refusing to put down the knife and even approaching the officers. It was at this point that the officer from Manteca, in assessment of imminent danger, drew his gun and fired.

The man, who remains unidentified, was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
