FONTANA — On February 1st, FPD were able to respond to a mail theft in progress.  The location of this occurrence was the 6600 block of Heathrow Avenue.

Once there, police stopped a white 1994 Ford Thunderbird.  A citizen had called them with a description of such a vehicle.

Inside the vehicle police found a backpack and a large duffel bag full of mail that belonged in the Landings housing development.

33-year-old Denette Alvarez and 37-year-old Charlina Miller were summarily arrested and charged with mail theft. They were already on probation for burglary.

Police then searched the residence of Alvarez and Miller.  There they found more stolen mail, W-2 forms, government ID cards, checks, credit cards and false tax returns. FPD added a charge of identity theft.

So far over 250 victims have been identified.

The IRS and Postal Inspector have been contacted and more charges are pending.
