Broken Nail Identifies Burglary Suspect

Melanie Edgar

SAN LUIS OBISPO – On Wednesday night, January 18th, SLOPD received a call of a burglary that had occurred.

After they responded to the Mustang Village Apartments and as the story unfolded, they quickly identified a suspect in the burglary.

According to the victim, Melanie Edgar spoke to her and asked to use her phone, during which time she logged onto and then back out of her Facebook account.  However, the suspect’s user name remained on the borrowed phone.

During small talk, the victim spoke with Edgar about her manicure, which ended up being an important part of this report.  The victim locked her door and went to class and, upon returning to her apartment, noticed that her MacBook was missing and that one of the windows was open.

At the window the victim spotted a broken fingernail.  It was looked like one of Edgar’s.

Police lifted a fingerprint from the window and it was also matched to Edgar. They are now on the lookout for the burglary suspect.

The SLOPD adds, “The San Luis Obispo Police Department is asking for the communities help in locating EDGAR who is wanted for this burglary. If you have any additional details about the whereabouts of EDGAR you are encouraged to contact the Police Department at (805)781-7317 or Crime Stoppers at (805)549-STOP (7867).”
