Arrest Made At DUI Checkpoint in Salinas

SALINAS — Police conducted a field sobriety test and license checkpoint on Thursday night on East Laurel Drive and Maryal. With eleven officers and two community service officers working between 5:30 and 10:30 PM, ten drivers stood out. Only one was found to be driving while under the influence, while two were cited for driving on suspended licenses, and seven for driving without a license.

After being examined, one driver — identified only as a 25-year-old woman — was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The woman who tested positive for alcohol consumption ended up being 3 times over the legal limit, registering a .24 and, when tested again, .25 BAC. As it so happened, she was also driving on a suspended license. She was promptly arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail.

During the 4-hour checkpoint, youth groups from both the Sun Street Center’s PARTS Coalition and the Sunrise House Prevention Youth Council were in attendance.
