Two Homicide Suspects Accused of August Killing

HAYWARD —Two murder suspects nabbed separately by police are being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail, awaiting a January 3 plea hearing at the Hayward Hall of Justice.

Police arrested Javier Melgoza, 20, of Hayward, on December 22, on suspicion of murdering a local resident last summer.

Jesse Quinonez, 26, of Hayward was arrested on December 21, also charged with the same murder. In addition, Quionez is charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon, and vehicle theft.

The murder victim Jason J. Villegas, 42, of Hayward, was found August 14, stabbed multiple times on 900 block of Cottonwood Avenue, near the corner of Corkwood Street, not far from his home. Medics from the Hayward Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported to police that they saw two men fleeing from the vicinity of the murder in a four-door white sedan.
