PLACER COUNTY—An Auburn man went to authorities last week in Placer County after surveillance video on Facebook showed him allegedly assaulting a store clerk while trying to steal beer.

Noah Francis, 20, turned himself into Placer County Sheriff’s officials on Thursday, December 15, 2016, after he was informed that there was a video of him robbing a store at the Sinclair gas station, the day before, in North Auburn at Highway 49 and Dry Creek Road.

Surveillance cameras showed him entering the store and attempting to leave with a 12 pack of beer. The clerk saw him and the two got into a physical altercation. Francis left but returned twice more to punch the clerk numerous times.  He then left but returned with a knife for a third time and held the knife to the clerk’s throat before finally leaving for good.

Fortunately the clerk—although badly bruised—did not require medical attention.

Francis was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $60,000.
