PETALUMA — On December 15th at around 2:30 AM, an officer patrolling the Petaluma Factory Outlets noticed a suspicious individual attempting to break into a vending machine.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Michael Sampson, fled on foot but was caught nearby with an associate, identified as 39-year-old Jesse Shennan.

Samspon had allegedly been trying to drill the lock out of the vending machine, but discarded the drill once he realized he’d been seen. A K-9 officer was then called to the scene to conduct a search. The drill was eventually found under a nearby rock bed, and officers noted that its serial number had been filed off.

During booking, Sampson was also found to be in possession of a stainless steel BB gun that bore an uncanny resemblance to a legitimate handgun. Drug paraphernalia and stolen credit cards were also found.

Shennan was also arrested for prowling and the two were booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
