Marcus Gaines, 25, and Kevin Carter, 22, were taken into custody as they were leaving the residence under surveillance, after police obtained arrest warrants for four individuals, each facing murder charges, involving a fatal shooting and a car crash that occurred May 11, shortly before 11 a.m. on Highway 4.

The two other suspects, Damario Pitteard, 21, and Corey McCroey, 25, remain at large. A Pittsburg police SWAT team obtained a search warrant believing a third suspect was still inside the home, but were subsequently unable to locate him.

Police said a 7-month investigation revealed that the four suspects were involved in an ongoing gang dispute with the victims and had followed them, culminating in the shooting, which resulted in a rollover car crash as it hit an embankment.

The incident left four children ranging in age from 1 to 9 without a mother. Shanique Marie, 25, was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital, with a gunshot wound in her torso and head trauma. Her companion survived; he was released from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound in his hand.
