Suspect in Jail Accused of Molesting 9-Year-Old Girl on Train

OAKLAND — A 26-year-old man was arrested on Sunday afternoon for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl, who was with her family, sitting next to him on a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train.

Marcus S. Brown, an unemployed Oakland resident, has been charged with two felonies, committing a lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14 and threatening to commit a crime that would result in death or great bodily harm.

Brown was booked at Santa Rita Jail at 9:35 p.m., where he remains held for $150,000 bail. He was taken into custody November 27 at the Coliseum Station, where police boarded the train and located a witness.

The incident occurred nearby at Bay Fair Station in San Leandro, where the victim and her family left the train to call police, while the suspect remained on the Oakland bound train. Brown is accused of inappropriately touching the girl’s leg and buttocks, before a family member intervened and stopped him.

The girl was taken to the station in Oakland where the suspect was detained; she positively identified Brown and he was arrested at 4:40 p.m.
