Theft Charges for “Caregiver”

Chauntel Dunnigan

SAN BERNARDINO – When one hears the word “caregiver,” images of concern and help come to mind.  In this story, when one hears the word “caregiver,” a mug shot appears.

Said picture belongs to 38-year-old Norco resident Chauntel Dunnigan, who has been arrested for forgery, burglary, grand theft, and dependent adult theft.  It involved her “work” as a caregiver with an elderly victim at a senior home in Grand Terrace.

The first sign was when two checks belonging to the victim went missing and were subsequently cashed by Dunnigan in her name.

Then several pieces of the victim’s jewelry worth $20,000 also went missing. The victim’s family reported to the SBSD and an investigation began.

Dunnigan was arrested on Friday November 18th and a search warrant of her home located some of the missing jewelry as well as a receipt from a  pawn shop.

Detectives also discovered other gold jewelry at Dunnigan’s home, leading them to suspicions that there may be other victims of her thievery.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Central Station. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information on the We-Tip Hotline at www.wetip.com.
