Mobile Home Tenant in Jail after Alleged Arson

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected arson in the early hours of the morning on November 17th.

At approximately 3:23 AM, deputies arrived at an RV mobile home in the 2000 block of Nickerson Lane after a report of a vehicle fire and found it fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses nearby reported seeing a suspicious male running from the fire.

A subsequent investigation revealed that an argument had arisen between the owner of the RV and a tenant over an unpaid electricity bill related to an unregistered marijuana grow. The owner asked the tenant, identified as 45-year-old Quinn Morgan Shields of Rail Road Flat, to vacate the property. Witnesses later identified Shields as the suspect spotted running from the scene.

Shields was later found at the Calaveras County Jail asking to speak to a detective and was arrested on the spot for his alleged involvement in the incident.
