SACRAMENTO — Police arrested one of their own on numerous drug-related charges on Friday, November 4, 2016 in Sacramento.

Isaac Knutila, 45, was arrested at a local hotel on Harvard Street near Arden Way and booked on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance while carrying a loaded gun. The gun in his possession was department issued.

Police found drugs on Knutlia, as well as in his car that included cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana.

The suspect, a 16-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department, was arrested after detectives executed a search warrant for him following an internal investigation last month.

He was booked into Sacramento Main Jail on Saturday, November 5 at 6:03 a.m.

Sacramento Department Chief Brian Louie said the department launched an investigation after receiving a tip in mid-October from an outside agency that indicated Knutila might have been involved in prostitution-related activities.

“He was spotted in an area where there’s high prostitution,” said Sacramento Police Spokesperson Sgt. Bryce Heinlein.

Louie said the suspect could face additional charges if police find evidence of other wrongdoing. However, he added that there is no evidence that Knutila committed crimes while on duty.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending a decision on termination of employment.

Knutila was scheduled to be arraigned today with bail set at $10,000.
