HOLLISTER — 56-year-old Alex Yanez of Hollister was arrested after a five-and-a-half hour standoff at his home on 7th Street. The debauchery unfolded after police served a search warrant on the home and found Yanez to be less than cooperative.

Last Tuesday evening, police arrived at the 500 block of 7th Street to serve a search warrant on Yanez’s home. An attempt to have him exit the residence peacefully was met with hostility, forcing officers to call for backup.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s SWAT team arrived shortly and, after a nearly six-hour standoff, deployed tear-gas into the residence. Yanez quickly changed his tune and finally surrendered at approximately 1:30 AM.

He was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital to receive treatment for exposure to tear gas, then booked into the San Benito County Jail on various charges ranging from weapons to drugs. His bail was set at $91,000.
