PETALUMA – According to a Community Advisory issued by the Petaluma Police Department (PPD) on July 16th, PPD officers were on foot conducting extra patrol in the 100 block of Kentucky Street in downtown Petaluma just before 2 am Saturday morning. During this foot patrol officers observed two male subjects engaged in a heated argument.

As the officers approached the subjects to deescalate the altercation they observed one of the male suspects punch the other male suspect in the face. Officers quickly intervened and ordered the aggressor to the ground. The suspect complied and officers began taking him into custody.

While officers were restraining the suspect in handcuffs and dealing with other involved parties the victim who had been punched by the suspect approached them and proceeded to kick his attacker in the head while he was on the ground being handcuffed. After kicking the first suspect in the head the second attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended without incident by officers a short distance away.

Both subjects sustained injuries from their assaults on one another and were transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital for medical treatment. Once released from the hospital both were transported to Sonoma County Jail and booked into custody.

The initial aggressor was identified as Michael Walker, a 33-year-old Santa Rosa resident. The second suspect was identified as William Minor, a 28-year-old resident of Sonoma. Minor was charged with 245(a)(1) PC, assault with a deadly weapon, and Walker was charged with 243(d) PC, battery causing serious injury.
