SALINAS — Police arrested a man inside Giorgio’s Restaurant after an alarm alerted them to his presence at 2:20 AM on Monday.

Responding officers found the gate to the Ticino’s coffee shop open and a BMX bike propped up against the wall. A K-9 unit was called in to search the building and had almost finished when officers heard a voice calling out to them.

26-year-old Ethan Benoit of Salinas made his presence known, and it was soon discovered that he’d broken in with the intent of stealing the business’ computer. He also turned out to be the owner of the BMX out front.

The remainder of the building was searched and no other suspects were found.

Benoit was arrested and taken to Monterey County Jail on a charge of burglary. According to records, he has a previous arrest for possession of a controlled substance and probation violation.
