Police Arrest Third Suspect in Watsonville Shooting

(L to R): Alex Ortiz, Carlos Valdivia, Jacob Gooden

WATSONVILLE — Detectives with the Watsonville Police Department have arrested a third suspect in connection to an April 5th shooting incident in the area of Prospect and Lincoln Street.

On that Tuesday evening around 7:04, responding officers discovered one male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigation suggests the victim and three suspects exchanged words prior to one of the suspects drawing a firearm and shooting him, then fleeing in a brown and gold vehicle. Police have already made two arrests in connection to the shooting.

Detectives arrested 20-year-old Alex Ortiz of Las Lomas and 18-year-old Carlos Valdivia of Castroville just two weeks after the shooting. At the time of the arrest, detectives seized four firearms and arrested a 17-year-old juvenile on an unrelated firearm charge.

The third suspect, identified as Jacob Glen Gooden of Royal Oaks, remained at large until the 27th of this month when detectives noticed him sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle returning to his home. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

Both Ortiz and Valdivia were charged with attempted murder with gang enhancements, as will Gooden.
