Santa Cruz Area Bank Robbery Suspect Identified

CCTV footage of Randall Dowling

APTOS — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man believed to be responsible for the recent rash of bank robberies in the county.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 53-year-old Randall Scott Dowling, who does not have a current address but does frequent the 41 Avenue corridor from Pleasure Point to Soquel Drive.

On Monday, April 4, police responded to the Aptos branch of Santa Cruz County Bank on reports of a robbery. The suspect had allegedly entered the bank, walked up to the teller, and demanded money. He then fled after being handed an undisclosed amount.

Deputies canvassed the area but did not locate the suspect.

Forensic and video evidence eventually connected the incident to Dowling, who is also suspected of robbing the CoAmerica Bank on 41st Avenue on two different occasions.

Capitola police have issued a $275,000 arrest warrant for his arrest. The Sheriff’s Office also has enough evidence to move forward with an arrest for the County Bank robbery and is seeking an arrest warrant.

The Sheriff’s Office is advising that anyone who may recognize Dowling on the street to call 9-1-1 immediately.
