Santa Ana Man Charged with Trying to Run Over Police Officer

Jesse Angel Ramos

SANTA ANA – A Santa Ana man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly tried to run over a police officer during a pursuit.

Police arrested Jesse Angel Ramos, 20, after he was found hiding inside a stranger’s home several days after a pursuit that reached speeds of nearly 70 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Ramos, who police said is a known gang member, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and other charges.

Santa Ana Police said the incident occurred on February 25 when police attempted to stop a black Ford Mustang in Santa Ana.

When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit ensued in which the Mustang collided with a civilian vehicle and nearly hit a police officer on a motorcycle.

Police said the suspect “began backing directly at the motor officer using the suspect vehicle as a weapon” but that the officer was able to avoid being hit. Police eventually lost sight of the vehicle during the pursuit.

On March 1, Ramos was spotted on foot near the intersection of 5th Street and Jackson and fled when police tried to contact him. During a search of nearby homes, Ramos was found hiding inside a home on the 500 block of North Jackson.

Police determined that the homeowner was not aware that Ramos had entered their home and was hiding there.
In addition to being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, Ramos also faces charges of felony evading and hit and run collision.
