HOLLISTER — Hollister police arrested a Gonzales man on attempted burglary charges after cornering him during a neighborhood search on Monday afternoon.

The suspect, 25-year-old Elliot Turpin, was booked on numerous charges of burglary.

On Monday morning, police received two separate calls reporting thefts — one having occurred on Sunnyslope Road in South Hollister and the other on Diablo Road, the latter involving a serious incident of strong-armed robbery.

At about 11 A.M., police received another call of a residential burglary in the 1600 block of Bodega Court during which the suspect had been discovered at the scene. Officers descended on the area and found Turpin hopping fences in an attempt to escape.

While some officers pursued Turpin on foot, others worked to set up a perimeter to keep him contained.

Officers were able to head Turpin him off between houses and arrest him without further incident. A preliminary investigation linked him to the attempted burglaries reported earlier, as well as the strong-armed robbery and a series of residential burglaries in Hollister.

Turpin was also found to be on probation in Monterey County for prior burglary convictions. He was booked into the San Benito County Jail on charges of burglary, attempted robbery, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and probation violation.
