Suspect Arrested in Santa Ana Police Shooting

SANTA ANA – Police arrested a recently-paroled gang member in connection with a shooting that left a Santa Ana police officer wounded.

Police arrested Carlos Michael Rodriguez, 30, of Santa Ana on several charges including attempted murder of a police officer.

The February 16 shooting occurred on the 2700 block of West McFadden in Santa Ana during a police investigation.

When detectives came into contact with Rodriguez, he fired a handgun at one of the detectives, leaving him with a bullet graze wound to the head.

Police returned fire and wounded Rodriguez in the upper and lower torso areas. Two handguns were recovered at the scene.

The officer who was wounded was treated at the scene and released. Rodriguez was hospitalized and is in stable condition.

Police said Rodriguez was on parole after being released from prison after an eight-year term.

He was booked on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, being gang member in possession of a gun, possession of a gun within a school zone, and possession of a concealed gun.
