HOLLISTER — Hollister Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who tried to cash a fake check at a check-cashing business on January 25.

On the afternoon of Monday, January 25, Hollister police were dispatched to a check cashing business in the 1200 block of San Juan Road on a report of a suspected forged check.

The suspects had left before the police arrived.

A clerk told police the man tried to use a fake ID to cash a payroll check, which had several discrepancies and prompted a call.

The suspect apparently had grown impatient and left the store. Officers could not locate him in the surrounding area and are asking the public to be on the lookout.

The suspect in the video footage appears to be in his late late 20s/early 30s with black hair and brown eyes, standing about 5-foot-6 and weighing about 180 pounds.  Police are using social media to circulate his CCTV photo.

Anyone with relevant information on the case or leading to the suspect’s whereabouts is strongly encouraged to call the Hollister Police Department at 1-831-636-4330.
