Suspect Arrested for Using Stolen Credit Cards

LAKE ELSINORE – Working with local businesses to quell the rise of credit card theft and false charges, authorities arrested a suspect in the act of using a stolen credit card.

Lake Elsinore police received a report on January 29th at approximately 1:00 pm regarding the burglary of personal property, including the victim’s credit cards.

At approximately 3:00 pm, an officer assigned to the Lake Elsinore Police Department received a call from a local merchant who advised him a suspect, later identified as Kristy Gamble, 28, a resident of Long Beach, was attempting to use a stolen credit card.

Officers located Gamble in the 18000 block of Collier Avenue, where she was found to be in possession of property from the earlier burglary, as well as property obtained from local stores using the victim’s credit cards. Gamble was placed under arrest and later booked for burglary, identity theft, and stolen credit card charges.

According to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, authorities have been successfully networking with local merchants in an effort to identify persons and groups committing these types of crimes, which are currently on the rise.

As a result of this networking, merchants and law enforcement are immediately communicating with each other when a suspected thief is targeting a given area.

Additionally, The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has recently experienced an unusual number of calls for service regarding the theft of U.S. mail.

In a separate release the department stated that law enforcement relies heavily on public participation to recover stolen mail and place closure on a case. The department recommends that residents be proactive about protecting their mail from theft, including giving mail directly to carriers and immediately retrieving mail from boxes.

Local residents who witness a mail theft in progress, are asked to immediately contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951-776-1099 and report the incident and to contact the Postal Inspectors at 877-846-2455.
