Wrench-Wielding Man Carjacks Vehicle

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly carjacking a vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, they received a report around 2:08 p.m. regarding a man running in circles in the middle of the road near the intersection of W. Tefft Street and N. Thompson Avenue in Nipomo.

According to witnesses, the man was running around with a large wrench in his hand. One of the motorists driving by stopped to avoid hitting the suspect.

The wrench-wielding man then jumped on the top of the vehicle and smashed the windshield with the wrench. The driver then exited the vehicle, at which time, the suspect jumped in the vehicle and began to drive away.

Other drivers in the area used their cars to trap the suspect to keep him from escaping. Deputies arrived on scene and detained the suspect who was identified as Soloni Santini Lucio, 35, of Coachella.

Sheriffs report that the suspect passed out while in handcuffs. Lucio was transported to a local hospital where he has remained in custody.

Deputies found a substance believed to be illegal narcotics on the suspect. Lucio was charged with two felonies, carjacking and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $100,000.
