Police Searching for Suspect in High-Speed Gunbattle

Miles Banks and Adell Vaughn

FRESNO – Police are looking for a man they said fired at several undercover police officers Wednesday during a chase in east-central Fresno.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Miles Ali Banks and the passenger has been identified as 19-year-old Adell Vaughn of Fresno.

Detectives in an undercover vehicle were tailing the car because they suspected that the driver had fired several shots into an apartment complex on North Winery Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

While following the car on Wednesday morning, detectives saw the passenger fire a shot into the air from the vehicle. The detectives attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the suspects fled, prompting the chase, police said.

The suspects and officers exchanged fire as the chase proceeded near Lamona Court and Hedges Avenue, and then onto Peach Avenue, police said.

One of the detectives used his vehicle to ram the suspects’ car near Peach and Olive, causing it to swerve onto a curb near an apartment complex. The passenger, Vaughn, jumped out of the vehicle and ran, police said. Officers have yet to locate him.

Banks, the driver, was arrested without incident.
