Kohl’s Store on North McDowell & Redwood Way

PETALUMA – According to a Petaluma Police Department (PPD) Press Release, officers were called to North McDowell Blvd. and Redwood Way by security at a Kohl’s department store shortly after 5:30pm on Monday evening.

Store security had observed a man taking items from the store and pursued him into the parking lot. The suspect then made statements that he would shoot the security employees if they continued to chase him.

The man then fled into a large nearby field off of Redwood Way. Security informed Officers when they arrived on scene that they had last seen the suspect stripping off his jacket and shirt in the vicinity of the field. They also informed PPD Officers of the threats though they reported seeing no firearm.

PPD Officers set a perimeter around the field and began to methodically search for the subject. They later located the suspect lying down in foot tall weeds. Store security identified the man as the suspect who stole the items and threatened them and then placed the man under citizen’s arrest.

The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Scott Sloan, a resident of Santa Rosa. He was taken into custody by PPD and faces charges of petty theft and making criminal threats.
