Salinas sees 1st shooting of new year

SALINAS — The Salinas Police had responded to a report of a shooting that turned out to be the first one of the New Year, already a troubling thought considering Salinas finished 2015 with a combined total of 40 homicides and attempted homicides.

In this incident, police reported that a 19-year-old male was dropping off two friends at home in the 1400 block of Parsons Avenue. As he left the area southbound towards Rainier Drive, two unidentified male subjects opened fire.

The victim stepped on the gas to get away as fast as he could, but lost control of the vehicle and collided with a parked car. When police arrived, the victim was discovered with gunshot wounds to the head and rushed to a nearby hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

The incident is still under investigation.
