SACRAMENTO — Police have arrested a local teenager for allegedly shooting a man to death earlier this month in Carmichael.

The 16-year-old boy is suspected of killing Jonathan McKenzie, 25, of Carmichael. Records show the teen was already in Sacramento County juvenile hall on weapons and drug charges.

On December 12, 2015, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding an incident at the Walnut Wood Apartments on the 2800 block of Walnut Avenue.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim had been shot inside one of the apartments. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told deputies they heard a fight followed by a single gunshot and then saw two males fleeing the scene in a vehicle leaving the complex out towards Walnut Avenue.
