Ten Arrested in Cathedral City Area Gang Sweep

CATHEDRAL CITY – Multiple law enforcement agencies served numerous gang-related warrants in and around Cathedral City resulting the arrest of ten adult suspects and one juvenile.

In an effort to quell gang violence in the city of Cathedral City, authorities served warrants on December 17, 2015 throughout the Coachella valley at the residences of suspected gang members and associates.

On Thursday, According to a press release from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department members of the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force (CVVCGTF), supported by local law enforcement officers served warrants which resulted in the confiscation of eight firearms, approximately one-thousand rounds of ammunition, high capacity magazines, over 1,500 grams of suspected marijuana, approximately 10 grams of suspected hashish, approximately one-thousand dollars of US currency, gang indicia, scales, and other items related to the sales of drugs.

The search warrants were served at the following locations:

  • 67-400 block of Mission Drive, Cathedral City
  • 67-100 block of Santa Barbara Drive, Cathedral City
  • 30-900 block of San Antonio Drive, Cathedral City
  • 67-100 block of Assistencia Drive, Cathedral City
  • 67-200 block of Assistencia Drive, Cathedral City
  • 67-400 block of Verona Road, Cathedral City
  • 68-300 block of Walker Street, Cathedral City
  • 27-300 block of Avenida Quintana, Cathedral City
  • 30-100 block of San Luis Rey Drive, Cathedral City
  • 66-100 block of Cahuilla Avenue, Desert Hot Springs
  • 66-300 block of Flora Avenue, Desert Hot Springs
  • 73-800 block of Santa Rosa Way, Palm Desert
  • 34-100 block of Rebecca Way, Rancho Mirage
  • 34-100 block of Rebecca Way, Rancho Mirage
  • 31-200 block of Roberts Road, Thousand Palms
  • 54-400 block of Kimdale Drive, Whitewater

The following suspects were arrested and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, located in the city of Banning, for the following charges:

  • 22 year-old, Cathedral City resident, Christopher Martinez – parole violation
  • 21 year-old, Cathedral City resident, Jacob Winters – possession of hashish for sales
  • 37 year-old, Desert Hot Springs resident, Michael Tagle – possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation
  • 25 year-old, Rancho Mirage resident, Rogelio Velasquez – two misdemeanor warrants
  • 25 year-old, Rancho Mirage resident, Monica Sanchez – misdemeanor warrant
  • 18 year-old, Rancho Mirage resident, Samuel Reyes – assault with a deadly weapon
  • 24 year-old, Cathedral City resident, Louis Serrano – possession of high capacity magazine
  • 21 year-old, Cathedral City resident, Daniel Torres – possession of a high capacity magazine
  • 19 year-old, Cathedral City resident, Daniel Ayala – alternating a serial number on a firearm
  • 22 year-old, Cathedral City resident, Trevor Garcia – possession of marijuana for sales and possession of high capacity magazine

One male adult was cite released and one 17 year-old juvenile was booked into the Riverside County Juvenile Hall, located in the city of Indio, for a violation of a gang injunction.

The operation is part of an ongoing effort to combat predatory gang activity in the community and protect law abiding residents from violence. The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force is committed to creating safe and secure neighborhoods free of violent crime and gang activity.
