Elk Grove Suspect Turns Himself in for Assault Over Hoverboard

Jourdan Ware

ELK GROVE — An Elk Grove man, who police have been looking for in connection with an assault of a teenager with a baseball bat, turned himself in to police on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Sacramento County Jail.

Jourdan Ware, 18, had been identified by police as one of three people who allegedly robbed two teenage brothers, ages 17 and 18, of two hoverboards—electric two-wheeled scooters.

One of the Elk Grove teens is recovering from a baseball bat attack after trying to sell self-balancing scooters in his neighborhood. He was robbed and beaten at approximately 4:30 pm on December 3 at a public park along the 6300 block of Castro Verde Way. The two $400 hoverboards were taken from the trunk of the victim’s vehicle by the thieves, who then fled the scene.

The victim was hospitalized overnight for treatment and released the following day.

“He was hit in the back . . . and he hit him this way,” said the victim’s mother, who had driven her son to the park for the sale.

The victim and his younger brother had bought hoverboards to start a small business selling to friends and family.

“All I heard was this pop noise. When I heard the noise, it actually sounded like a small gun,” she said. “That freaked me out, so I jumped out of the car. My son is lying on the ground and the kids are running off with the boxes.”

Police said a felony warrant was issued for Ware’s arrest for his alleged involvement in a felony assault and two counts of forcible robbery. Two other individuals are also being sought.

Elk Grove Police are asking that anyone with information to please call (916) 478-8060 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-4357.
