Animal Cruelty Charges Filed Against MMA Fighter

Fidel Manzano

KINGSBURG – The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against an MMA fighter relating to a weekend attack on a 1-year-old terrier mix dog.

Police arrested 35-year-old Fidel Manzano, of Kingsburg, after he allegedly arrived home on Sunday morning intoxicated and began to beat his 15-pound dog named Chokaly because it was crying and making noise.

Family members were scared to report the incident at the time because they were afraid that Manzano, an MMA fighter, would turn his aggression on them, police said.

The DA’s Office said that the puppy suffered from a broken jaw, head trauma, partial blindness, soft tissue injuries to the hind legs, and back pain.

Manzano was placed in custody at the Fresno County Jail with a bail amount of $7,500. He has been charged with one felony county of animal cruelty and faces a maximum sentence of up to 3 years in local custody if convicted.
