Two Suspects Arrested for Mail Theft in Norco

Two Suspects Arrested for Mail Theft in Norco

Casey Everette Whitley

NORCO – Following the discovery of stolen mail, a man and woman were arrested and the mail returned to the addressee.

On Sunday, November 29 at 3:53 a.m., Riverside Sheriff’s deputies noted a male and female walking behind Target, located in the 1200 block of Hamner Avenue in the city of Norco.  Deputies were able to identify the man who was currently probation. After deputies approached the man and spoke with him, they also recognized him from a photograph of a suspect who reportedly burglarized the Mid-Hill Golf Center in Eastvale on Tuesday, November 17.

Both of the subjects were then searched, at which time authorities discovered numerous pieces of stolen mail addressed to the Hampton Inn, located in the 1500 block of Hamner Avenue in the city of Norco, in the possession of the female suspect. The recovered mail was returned to the Hampton Inn.

Casey Everette Whitley, age 34 of Norco, was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for burglary and possession of burglary tools.  Cynthia Lauraine Yates, age 24 of Norco, was arrested and cite-released for possession of stolen property.

UPS and the U.S. Postal Service note that mail theft during the Christmas season is particularly common. The two mail services suggest that customers never send cash in the mail. It is also suggested that letters are dropped in designated postal pickups as close to possible as the pickup time listed on the box. Pick up your mail in a timely fashion and if possible, have a locked mailbox. Listen for UPS deliveries, carriers as a rule are supposed to ring your doorbell and yell out “UPS” when delivering a package.

This investigation is ongoing and they are asking anyone with additional information to contact Deputy Robles at the Norco Sheriff’s Office at 951-270-5673.
