Gang Member Suspected for Attempting to Burglarize High School

Vincent Garcia

FRESNO – Police arrested a gang member they believe was trying to steal from Roosevelt High School early Sunday morning.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded to the burglary in progress at 3 a.m. after a security guard at the school saw a broken window and notified police that the suspect, identified as Vincent Garcia, was still on campus.

The officers discovered 32-year-old Garcia pretending to be asleep between school buildings. He was still wearing latex gloves and had a screwdriver and bolt cutters, police said.

Garcia, who was identified by police as a gang member, allegedly told the officers that he wanted to steal something from the school that he could later sell, but the security guard scared him before he could successfully take anything.

Garcia was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools. Past records show he was arrested on August 19 of 2014 for burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was living in the town of Orange Cove in southeast Fresno County at the time.
