Suspect in Armed Robbery Spree Arrested

ESCONDIDO – Escondido police arrested a suspect in a series of armed robberies dating back to August.

According to Escondido Police Department Lt. Greg Kogler, police arrested Alonzo Mora, 37, of San Marcos on the 1500 block of East Valley Parkway in Escondido on Tuesday, September 15. Police officials said Mora was arrested without incident while sitting inside a parked van.

Mora is a suspect in a series of at least a half-dozen armed robberies that took place in Escondido, San Marcos, and Vista since late August. The suspect targeted small retail businesses during daylight hours and threatened employees with a gun in order to get money.

Mora was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on six counts of armed robbery and one count of possession of heroin. A female companion who was with Mora at the time of his arrest was questioned and later released after police determined she was not involved in the series of robberies. She was cited for possession of heroin and released on her own recognizance.
