Chase Shuts Down Schools, Ends With One in Custody

BAKERSFIELD — A burglary suspect was apprehended on Wednesday morning after leading police on a foot pursuit through a quiet southwest Bakersfield neighborhood.

Jaime Rodriguez, 22, of Bakersfield was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responding to a residential burglar alarm in the 4400 block of Idlerock Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. on September 9, observed a male suspect running from the scene upon their arrival.

A foot pursuit ensued, but the suspect, identified later as Rodriguez, was eventually caught just a short time later in the 4600 block of Idlerock Avenue, where officers said they located property from the victim’s residence on or about Rodriguez’s person.

The chase put three local schools on a precautionary lock-down, which according to police only lasted during the 15-minute chase. Panama Elementary, Stonecreek Junior High, and Ridgeview High School were all affected by the short lock-down.
