Doctor Arrested for Sexual Assault in Temecula

TEMECULA- Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reports that following a July investigation, authorities arrested a physician formerly practicing in Temecula for assaulting a patient following a medical procedure.

Dr. John McGuire, 44, of Carlsbad was arrested Wednesday, August 19 for assault charges stemming from an incident that reportedly occurred at Temecula Valley Hospital.

After a patient filed charges that she was assaulted following a procedure, deputies investigated. In July, the investigators uncovered evidence that supported the allegations.

McGuire was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of sexual battery of an unconscious person, sexual penetration by force and sexual exploitation by a physician, according to online jail records. However, authorities have not released details of McGuire’s arrest.

He is being held in lieu of $3 million bail, according to a sheriff’s news release.

In a statement from the hospital, Marcia Jackson, director of strategy and business development stated, “The safety and well-being of our patients is the highest priority at Temecula Valley Hospital.” Jackson also said that “the allegations being made were not reported to Temecula Valley Hospital at the time of the alleged incident. However, we intend to cooperate fully with the Sheriff’s department in their investigation of this matter.”

The hospital also asserted the McGuire was not a working member of the staff and had resigned from the facility in June. The hospital asserted that the doctor is no longer treating patients at the hospital.

According to the Press Enterprise, ” McGuire was still listed as practicing as an ear, nose and throat doctor with Graybill Medical Group in Escondido as of Wednesday afternoon. However, his name was removed from the medical group’s website around 5:30 p.m.”

The Sheriff’s Department asked that anyone with information about the case call 951-696-3000 and ask for Investigator Pemberton.
