Three Arrested in Holiday Weekend DUI Traffic Collisions in Coachella Valley

COACHELLA VALLEY – Three accidents, one with attached felony charges, were caused by drivers under the influence during the July 4th holiday weekend.

The Riverside Sheriff’s Department reported arrests in three different collisions over the weekend. The first occurred on Saturday, July 4 at 1:56 A.M.  A 2015 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on Tyler Street and struck a parked 1992 GMC flatbed truck at the 53000 block of Tyler Street in the city of Coachella. Driver Jose Guadalupe Monje Jr., age 38 of Indio, sustained moderate injuries in the crash, along with an adult male passenger in the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities report that charges will be filed on the driver, Monje Jr. for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury to his passenger.

At 9:10 PM on July 4th a second traffic collision occurred on S.R. 86 Expressway, at the intersection with Avenue 50 in the city of Coachella. A green Kia Rio, driven by John Cadle, age 51, was traveling southbound on the Expressway and failed to stop at the red traffic control signal, colliding with a burgundy Jeep Compass. Cadle and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Cadle was arrested for suspicion of felony driving under the influence, and after a medical release he was booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio.

The third injury collision occurred on Sunday, July 5 on Monterey Avenue, just south of Verbenia Road in Rancho Mirage. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Joshua Mazzarelli, 22 of Cathedral City, left the roadway and collided with a metal yellow and black traffic control sign.

Mazzarelli was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and was booked into the county jail in Indio after he was medically cleared by a local hospital.
