Hawthorne Transient Busted for Drugs, Bicycle Violations

INGLEWOOD, CA—It’s hard to be homeless, and even harder to pay tens of thousands of dollars in bail after being busted for drug possession and bicycle violations.

Regina Lorraine Sanchez, 33, was picked up by Hawthorne police officers on Saturday, May 5 at approximately 11:39 p.m. She may have been pedaling along the 13200 block of Prairie Avenue, as one of the two bicycle charges levied against her was for operating a bike on the sidewalk (HAMC 10.60.01); the other was not having the legally required bicycle lighting (21201(D)1VC).

She also had three drug-related charges: attempted possession of a controlled substance (11378HS), possession of an opium pipe or device for injecting or smoking a controlled substance (11364(A)HS) and simple possession of a controlled substance (11377HS).

Additionally, she was found to have a warrant from Los Angeles PD for disturbing the peace with loud or /unreasonable noise (415(2)PC).

Bail for the five new fresh charges was set at $31,785. The warrant added another $15,000 bringing the grand total to $46,785.

With that kind of money, one could easily put a down payment to most any house in Hawthorne.
