Alert Citizens Lead Police to Burglar and Stolen Vehicle

PETALUMA – On Thursday May 7, the Petaluma Police Department (PPD) issued a Press Release about a man arrested for multiple crimes.

At approximately 10 pm on May 6, PPD received a call from a citizen in the vicinity of the 2000 block of Chetwood Drive, a residential street adjacent to the Petaluma River. He had witnessed a suspect enter an open garage and get into an unlocked vehicle. Afterwards, the man was seen leaving the area in a work-type of truck at a high rate of speed. While fleeing the area the suspect was involved in a hit and run accident involving a parked vehicle.

A concerned citizen followed the suspect in his own vehicle and directed the PPD to his location. The thief was stopped and detained without incident. The subject was also found to be in possession of a stolen computer and other stolen property. The vehicle itself was found to have been an unreported stolen vehicle.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Michael Vincent Myles of Santa Rosa. Myles is being charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, hit and run with property damage, and a violation of probation. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and held on no bail. Myles had been arrested last September by Santa Rosa police on similar charges – receiving stolen property, motor vehicle.
