High School Assistant Coach Arrested for Allegedly Having Sex with Student

CLOVIS – A campus security guard and assistant freshman baseball coach was arrested on charges that he had sex with a student under the age of 16.

Fernando Garcia, 24, was arrested on Tuesday morning at Ashlan and Armstrong Avenues while he was heading to work, police said.

The Clovis Police Department was alerted by officials at Clovis Unified School District on Monday afternoon that Garcia was possibly having a relationship with a female student. Garcia resigned from the district following the allegations.

Investigators seized evidence from Garcia’s home on the 5500 block of East Pontiac Way in east-central Fresno.

Police do not believe that the alleged sexual interactions between Garcia and the student took place on campus. Garcia is being jailed on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, oral copulation with a person under 18 and lewd acts with a juvenile.
