Rap Video Leads to Gang Member’s Arrest

FRESNO – A former Los Angeles gang member seen posing with guns in a rap video being produced in Fresno was arrested last week.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department found the video on March 9 while they were executing a search warrant in connection with two shootings. Detectives watched the video and were able to identify several gang members posing with guns. They also discovered clues as to where the video was shot, prompting a mini-gang operation involving several law enforcement agencies, authorities said.

On Thursday, March 19, police searched several Fresno locations, where they seized three guns. At one of the locations – an apartment complex on the 100 block of East Dakota Avenue — officers discovered and arrested Michael Ricks, an ex-felon and former gang member from Los Angeles who had been seen in the rap video, according to authorities.

Police said that Ricks admitted to owning one of the revolvers that was recovered by the police. He was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of gun possession.
